Timebanking 101

Timebanking is a process where people exchange services and goods for units of time (credit hours) based on five timebanking principles:

  1. Everyone is an asset to the community
  2. Redefining work (you define your work and offer it to the community)
  3. Reciprocity (give and receive)
  4. Social networking (build your community of support)
  5. Respect for individuals where they are at instead of where you want them to be

Timebanking builds resilient communities by 

  • valuing the individual’s skills and talents
  • enhancing the individual’s quality of life regardless of income
  • making more services accessible to more people
